A blast from a homemade bomb that left a 52-year-old Logan man with serious injuries may have been a targeted attack, Queensland police say.
The man is believed to have picked up a bucket which contained the device in the front yard of his Kingston home on Jacaranda Avenue around 5:30pm yesterday.
An emergency declaration was quickly declared but later revoked.
His partner was also home at the time but was not hurt. No-one else was injured in the blast.
Investigators are yet to speak with the man, who is recovering from surgery at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Logan Detective Acting Inspector Nicola Brown said the bomb was likely home-made and may have been a targeted attack.
She said police received several triple-0 calls when the bomb detonated.
"We do believe that it could possibly be a targeted event and we don't believe that there is any threat to the wider community in relation to this actual incident itself," she said.
"With any investigation, we cast a wide net, we look at any avenue that the evidence points too and we'll conduct those inquiries accordingly."
Police sources have told the ABC nails were in the bomb.
Acting Inspector Brown declined to comment on the presence of nails but said investigations were continuing.
"At this stage, we've got forensics on scene processing that scene. We've got other specialist units assisting the Logan district.
"We're in the early stages of the investigation which includes how the device was located at the dwelling."
She said the man was lucky his injuries were not more serious.
