Man sentenced to nine years in Livingston court for abuse against women

Police Scotland have announced that a 40-year-old man has been found guilty for serious violent offences against women in Central Scotland.

Gary Dysart was found guilty at the High Court in Livingston after he was found to have carried out offences against two women over a 14-year period from 2005 to 2019.

Dysart was sentenced to a total of nine years imprisonment and a 12 year non-harassment order at the High Court in Livingston yesterday (Wednesday).

Detective Sergeant Gillian Paddon said: “Gary Dysart is an extremely violent and dangerous man who will now face the consequences of his actions.

“This sentencing sends a clear message that crimes of this nature will not be tolerated and will be robustly investigated by Police Scotland.

“I would like to take this opportunity to commend the strength and courage shown by the victims and hope that this sentencing provides some form of closure.

“I would urge anyone who feels they've been a victim of abuse, or has concerns about friends or family members, to get in touch with police."

Anyone with any information or concerns can contact Police on 101, or alternatively anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
