Man sent 'threatening' parking fine letter after picking up his medication

A man claims to have been sent a 'threatening' letter after picking up his medication.

The 65-year-old, who asked not to be named, said he visited St Helens town centre on December 18 to shop at The Range store on Chalon Way West and to pick up his emphysema medication.

The car park, which is reserved for shoppers at The Range, is ran by parking firm Ocean Parking.

The ECHO has previously reported how shoppers in St Helens had been handed f ines which they feel were unjust, after visiting the same car park.

The 65-year-old man told the ECHO: "I visited the car park on December 18. I was shopping in St Helens and after leaving The Range I nipped to get my medication as I was recently diagnosed with emphysema.

"There were parking officers around that saw me leave and they didn't say anything to me or inform me that I can't leave."

The man, from Rainhill, then claims he heard nothing for weeks before receiving a demanding, threatening letter on February 1, claiming to be a second letter of notice, and increasing the parking charge from £60 to £100.

He said: "The letter was dated January 19 but I didn't even receive that until almost two weeks later. It used some intimidating wording and threatened court action.

"It really made attempts to pressure a payment as it said 'as a goodwill gesture we will accept £60 payment as long as it is paid today.'

"It really feels like entrapment and it doesn't seem fair."

The ECHO approached both The Range and Ocean Parking for comment.
