Man seen on doorbell camera booting open door as fire raged inside flat

A man was caught on doorbell camera kicking in the door to a flat as fire raged inside. The man booted open the door to the flat and was engulfed in smoke.

The man shouted: "Can you get to the door? The door is open if you can run." He covered his face with his T-shirt as smoke poured out of the home.

Emergency services say two people were taken to hospital as a result of the blaze - one has reportedly been released from hospital while another remains in NHS care, reports EdinburghLive.

It took firefighters five hours to bring the blaze under control. A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 6.06pm on Wednesday, 24 May to reports of a dwelling fire in Edinburgh.

"Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances to the city's Peffer Street, where firefighters met by a well-developed fire within a four-storey building.

"Crews extinguished the fire and made the area safe before leaving the scene.

"Two casualties were transported to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service."
