Man's body found in 300ft gorge in Cairngorms by mountain rescue teams

A man’s body has been found in a 300ft gorge by a mountain rescue team in the Cairngorms.

Emergency services recovered the remains from Ailnack Gorge, near Tomintoul, Moray, at around 1pm on Wednesday, March 1.

Police Scotland have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death. His next of kin have been informed of the tragedy.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal as is the case with all sudden deaths.

Ailnack Gorge is Scotland’s largest glacial melt water channel that runs for six miles and is approximately 600 ft wide.

Situated in the Cairngorms mountain range,iIt is a popular beauty spot for tourists as well as runners and walkers.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1pm on Wednesday, 1 March, 2023, the body of a man was recovered by mountain rescue teams from the Ailnack Gorge area of the Cairngorms.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and next of kin have been informed. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
