A man who had a woman he thought could be “the one” vanish on him after two-and-a-half years of dating says he can't get over what has happened.
Rob Mac, from Ireland, appeared on MTV show Catfish UK after being ghosted by girlfriend Sarah.
The pair initially met on Tinder before entering a long-term relationship.
However, despite being a couple they never met in person - partly because of Covid restrictions during the early stages of the romance - and Sarah suddenly disappeared from Rob's life.
Speaking to Catfish UK presenter Oobah Butler, Rob said: ''At the time, I was getting over a break-up with my ex-girlfriend of seven years and Sarah had also come out of a long-term relationship, so we really bonded over that.
"She's always been there when I needed her. We can chat on a deeper level.
“We've even discussed me moving to Dublin so that we could be closer to each other."
He added: "This could be the one for me.
"It's not fair. I've given her everything."
However, sadly for Rob he did not get the happy outcome he was hoping for when the show tracked down Sarah and arranged for the pair to meet in a shocking conclusion.
Attending a rendezvous in a park, Rob quickly realised that the reason for Sarah going quiet was because she had moved on with a new man.
Rob said: "You don't think it's invasive to come into my life, get me connected with you [...] and just cut me out?
"I thought you could be dead."
Sarah replied: "A lot of that has to do with me, I'll admit. But geographically, you know we don't live in the same place exactly."
Rob went on: "It's really bittersweet - that you're here, you're okay [...] but it does hit me. Two and a half years is a long time."
Having been unlucky in love, Rob says he is now taking a break from dating.
“To be honest after this whole catfish experience, I have been kind of taking a break,” he told Sunday world.
“With Covid, this connection I had with someone was going on for two-and-half years, pretty much from the start of Covid.
"For a long duration we couldn’t actually meet anyway. By the time restrictions had lifted, things had kind of got a bit funny.”
