Man's body recovered from River Trent after police search weir at Stoke Bardolph

A body has been recovered from the River Trent following reports a 39-year-old man had gone missing on Sunday evening (August 14). Nottinghamshire Police say a man's body was recovered just after 8am on Tuesday, August 16.

The force's Underwater and Specialist Search Unit was dispatched to the weir at Stoke Bardolph on Monday, August 15, after reports a man had gone missing near the river over the weekend. It was reported a man had entered the water just after 6.30pm on Sunday.

Specialist police divers were seen searching for the man at the weir and a body has now been recovered. Chief Inspector Chris Sullivan, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is a tragic incident that has resulted in a man losing his life.

“We are currently investigating what happened and would like to speak to any additional witnesses who have yet to come forward. Our thoughts today are with the man’s family and friends at what we know will be an extremely difficult time.

“Any search and recovery operation of this nature is very challenging, and I would like to pay tribute to the members of all three emergency service who attended the scene.” Anyone with additional information is asked to call 101 quoting the incident.
