Man's blundering 'attempted robbery' at Dublin post office with 'deli butter knife'

This video shows a man's blundering 'attempted robbery' at a Dublin post office with what appears to be a deli butter knife.

The footage shows the man, who is dressed head to toe in black including a face covering, brandishing a rounded knife as he approaches the counter in Portmarnock Post Office. As he gets closer to the counter, he takes a bag out of his pocket.

The man leans in and appears to say something to the member of staff behind the counter as a woman looks on baffled beside him. But after a brief moment, he turns and heads for the exit.

The incident, which has sparked a garda investigation, was over and done within about 20 seconds. And for the duration, the woman beside the thief doesn't step back once, despite the man and his knife getting quite close to her.

A spokesman for the gardai told Dublin Live yesterday an investigation had been launched but no arrests have been made. He said: "Gardaí are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred at approximately 4:30pm on Tuesday, 6th December, 2022, at a premises on the Strand Road in Portmarnock, County Dublin.

"No items were taken. No injuries or threats to persons has been reported."

He added: "No arrests have been made at this time. Investigations are ongoing."

Dublin Live have contacted the post office for comment.
