Man's arm slashed open in broad daylight attack

Detectives have renewed their appeal after a man’s arm was slashed during an attack in broad daylight.

Officers from Cheshire Police were called to Halton Road in Runcorn at 9.50am last Thursday following reports of an incident. Upon arriving at the scene they found a 42-year-old Runcorn man had been seriously assaulted.

A force spokesman said the casualty was taken to Whiston Hospital with a slash wound to his arm. He has since been discharged.

Investigators arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of Section 18 assault, wounding with intent in connection with the incident.

He has since been released on conditional bail.

A police cordon was in place outside a row of shop units with a detective speaking to an officer in a patrol car outside when the ECHO visited the scene.

Speaking as part of an updated appeal on Wednesday, Detective Constable Matt Furlong, of Runcorn Local Policing Unit, said: “I would like to reassure residents that this was an isolated incident and we are doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.

“One man was arrested following the incident and he has since been released on conditional bail, while we progress our investigation.

“As part of our ongoing enquiries we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have witnessed the disturbance.

“The same goes for anyone with any video footage of the incident.

“I’d urge anyone with any information in relation to the incident to contact Cheshire Police at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us , or on 101, quoting IML 1392889.”

Information can also be reported anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
