A MAN is behind bars accused of threatening to kill people involved in a car crash with his partner, then verbally abusing the paramedics that arrived to help.
Anthony Luke Blayden was arrested on Sunday in the hours after the alleged road rage incident unfolded at Wallsend sometime between 6.20am and 7am.
The 37-year-old faces three charges and was refused bail in Newcastle Local Court on Monday.
Police allege a woman called Blayden to say she and another vehicle had been involved in a car crash at Wallsend.
The court heard that despite an apprehended domestic violence order (ADVO) prohibiting Blayden from having contact with her, he allegedly went to the crash site.
The court heard he approached two other people at the scene, when things allegedly took a turn for the worse.
Blayden allegedly "threatened to kick them in the head" and take their heads and ram them in the gutter, magistrate Ian Cheetham said as he read the document detailing the police case.
"He then made a threat to kill those persons," Mr Cheetham said.
Blayden allegedly became verbally aggressive towards paramedics when they arrived, and they were forced to lock the ambulance doors.
Police were called to the scene and later attended John Hunter Hospital, before arresting Blayden.
Court documents show Blayden was charged with stalking or intimidating two men at Wallsend between 6.20am and 7am on September 29. He was also charged with contravening an ADVO.
Blayden was not required to enter pleas and his matter was adjourned to Newcastle Local Court next week.
His lawyer made an unsuccessful bail application on Monday, arguing Blayden needed to be in the community for family and cultural reasons.
The police prosecutor opposed Blayden's release, and Mr Cheetham refused bail, ordering him to remain in custody.
"It's a very serious allegation," he said.
