A man has been rushed to hospital after a violent attack outside a nightclub in Greenock.
The assault took place around 2.55am on Sunday June 19 outside the Word Up venue on the town's Dalrymple Street.
Emergency services attended and the 20-year-old victim was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital with serious injuries.
His full condition is not yet known.
Detectives have now launched an investigation into the incident and are hunting a suspect.
The male suspect is described as being in his early 20s and wearing a dark jumper, light trousers and white trainers at the time of the attack.
Officers are appealing for anyone with any information on the event, particularly taxi drivers or nightclub-goers, to come forward.
Detective Inspector Nikki Wake of CID said : “The man sustained a violent physical attack, which resulted in him being treated for serious injuries in hospital.
“Our enquiries into the assault are ongoing and we are carrying out a review of CCTV.
“The male suspect is described as being early 20s, wearing a dark jumper, light trousers and white trainers.
“We are keen to talk to anyone who may have been in the area around the time of this incident to get in touch with us.
"I would particularly appeal to taxi drivers or those who attended the club to come forward if you witnessed the assault.
“Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident number 0623 of Sunday, 19 June or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
