A man was rushed to hospital following a light aircraft crash in Essex on Saturday.
The Metropolitan Police were called to Aveley Road, Upminster, at approximately 1pm after reports that a small plane had come down in a nearby field. The area is in close proximity to Damyns Hall Aerodrome, though the origin of the ill-fated aircraft has yet to be confirmed.
Emergency services swiftly descended upon the scene, with officers from the Met joined by crews from London Ambulance Service and Essex Fire and Rescue Service.
A Met Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to an area on Aveley Road, Upminster, at 1.08pm on Saturday, September 7 to reports that a light aircraft had crashed. One male passenger was taken to hospital for treatment. We await an update on his condition."
The incident, which occurred near Belhus Country Park in South Ockendon, has resulted in the closure of the park's entrance. Authorities have yet to release details on the severity of the man's injuries or the circumstances leading to the crash.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has taken charge of the inquiry into the incident. An AAIB spokesperson confirmed: "We are aware of the accident. We will be deploying inspectors to the scene."
