Man reveals McDonald's McFlurry spoons have a 'true reason' behind 'weird' shape

A man has apparently revealed the 'genius' reason behind the odd shape of the McFlurry spoons that many of us will know.

The shape of the spoon could be more functional than you might think, according to a social media user who posts on TikTok as @zachd_filmspt9.

In a viral video, he explains that it is not as straw as some McDonald's fans would guess, but instead helps employees do their job a bit more efficiently.

He starts off the video by asking: "Have you ever noticed how odd the McFlurry spoon is?"

Zach then goes on: "Well some people think it's supposed to work like a straw. But you only have to try that once to realise that it does not work.

"The true reason for these weird spoons is actually pretty genius."

The TikTok creator explained: "You see, McDonalds didn't want to clean their beaters after every McFlurry, so instead they designed a spoon that would also work as the mixer.

The social media post was viewed more than 5,000 times on TikTok, but another version on Zach's YouTube went viral, receiving more than 36 million views.

Viewers flocked to the YouTube Short comments to share their thoughts on the bizarre yet clever revelation, with one writing: "As a former mcdonalds worker, 90% of us didn't even know that's what it was for."

A second said: "As an actual McDonald’s employee, I can confirm this is 100% true information," while a third added: "It actually seems like a good idea to make it a straw as well as a disposable mixer."

Another person joked: "Rare footage of the Ice Cream machine working at McDonalds."

You may not have seen as many of these spoons in McDonald's lately as the fast food chain has brought in sustainable paper cutlery that is being gradually introduced across branches.

The Daily Record has contacted McDonald's for comment.
