A 39-year-old man has appeared in court on a number of assault charges.
Steven McCulloch was seen in private at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday following a disturbance in East Kilbride on Tuesday night,
We told yesterday how a largescale police presence was seen in The Murray area of the town on the evening of June 28.
That led to a man and woman being arrested and due to appear in court.
McCulloch made no plea or declaration in relation to the five charges against him.
Those included three assault charges, one misuse of drugs charge, and a licensing charge.
McCulloch, from East Kilbride, was remanded in custody and is due to return to court within eight days.
His 36-year-old co-accused is set to appear in court at a later date.
Following the incident, a Police Scotland source told us: “We were called around 8.30pm on Tuesday to a report of a disturbance in the Somerville Terrace area of East Kilbride.
“Officers attended and a 39-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
“A 40–year-old woman was also arrested and charged and is due to appear in court at a later date.”
One picture on social media showed seven police cars and one police van lined up along the street, with one Lanarkshire Live source telling us it was “a nice area”.
