A man was subsequently arrested following the incident.

Police said on Tuesday (15 February) that he has since been released under investigation.

The shop worker told the Manchester Evening News : "He said someone had stabbed him with scissors."

"He asked me to get him a taxi but I called him an ambulance. He had blood from his head down to his feet."

Community leaders and residents in the area spoke of their shock in discovering the crime scene at the weekend.

"On behalf of local residents, it’s distressing to hear of the incident that occurred this morning," Coun Tariq Tamoor said on Saturday.

"Our understanding is that this is an isolated incident and the police are on with their enquiries and a full investigation.

"We will be taking steps in the coming week to reach out to Six Town Housing and local residents to see what we can do to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

A councillor said the injured man 'presented to the Goshen Off Licence' (ASP)

"This is one in a series of incidents that has taken place of late."

One resident woman said she was 'shocked' to see the crime scene.

"I wondered what had gone on," she said. "It's not often something like this happens around here," she said.

Another woman said she was 'amazed' when she heard what had happened. "It's a really nice area. Nothing like that has happened around here before. It's concerning because children go and play in those woods."

In a previous statement, a spokesperson for GMP said: "At around 10.55am on Saturday 12 February 2022, police received a report that a man in his 50s had been assaulted on Tennyson Road, Bury.

"He was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be serious.
