Man 'put people's lives at risk' after setting Audi A4 on fire

A man has been jailed for more than three years for setting a car on fire.

Brian Nolan has was sentenced today in Liverpool Crown Court after pleading guilty to arson offences in Wirral. The 47-year-old, of Beechwood Drive, Prenton, set an Audi A4 car on fire on August 14.

Merseyside fire and rescue service rushed to the fire on Bidston Avenue, Claughton and put out the flames. Fire crews then reported to police that they believed the fire was started deliberately and an investigation was launched.

Just a day after the fire, detectives arrested Nolan, and he was charged with arson with recklessness to endanger life and two counts of threats to commit arson. Today, on October 21, he was sentenced to three years and four months in prison after pleading guilty.

He also received a five-year restraining order. Detective Sergeant Nicholas Glascott-Tull said: "We welcome this sentence as it prevents Nolan from putting people’s lives in danger by committing such a reckless act.

"To deliberately set fire to a car is stupid and reckless, risking the lives of innocent people walking by and residents in nearby houses. The consequences could have been catastrophic and have caused fear and worry within the community.

"I hope Nolan uses the time in jail to reflect on his behaviour, and the significant impact it has had on his victims with the arson attack and his threats to them after the incident.
