A man was punched in the face and threatened with a hammer in a vicious early-morning attack.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the assault on Thompson Avenue, close to Ormskirk Hospital, in the early hours of Sunday, December 18. Lancashire Police confirmed officers were called at around 1am over a report of that a man in his 40s had been attacked.
Police told the ECHO the victim was punched in the face and threatened with a hammer by two men and a woman. Officers are yet to make any arrests and enquiries are ongoing.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson told the ECHO: "We were called at around 1am on Sunday (December, 18) to a report of an assault on Thompson Avenue, Ormskirk.
"It was reported the victim, a man in his 40s, was punched in the face and threatened with a hammer by two men and a woman.
"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting the log number 0093 of 18 December."
