Man punched in face and knocked to floor in assault at Metrolink tram stop

A man was hospitalised after being punched to the face and knocked to the floor in an assault at a Metrolink tram stop. The disturbance was reported to police on July 2 last year, after an altercation between two men ensued at the Deansgate-Castlefield station.

As a third male tried to intervene, he was then punched in the face, knocked to the floor and taken to hospital for treatment. Callum Hinds, 26, was arrested at the scene by transport officers.

He was later charged with grievous bodily harm (section 20) assault and was remanded in custody. He plead guilty to the offence in court and was bailed to attend court for sentencing.

However, Greater Manchester Police said that he failed to attend the sentencing. Hinds, of no fixed abode, was later located and remanded in custody again.

On Tuesday (November 22) he was sentenced at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court to 11 months' imprisonment. Following the sentencing, police said anti-social behaviour and crime 'will not be tolerated' on the region's transport network.
