Man pulls out knife outside Home Bargains and 'threatens' people

A man pulled out a knife outside Home Bargains and started threatening people after a disagreement.

Merseyside Police rushed to the shop on South Road in Waterloo at around 2.50pm on Wednesday, June 29, following reports of a man being possession of a knife. It was reported that after getting into an argument with a man and a woman, the suspect produced a knife and made threats.

He was reported to have attacked a man and woman and made off from the scene on foot.

Officers attended and arrested a 54-year-old man on Crosby Road North, near Waterloo Fire Station. He was arrested under suspicion of affray, possession of a bladed article, common assault and actual bodily harm.

He was taken into custody and will be questioned by police. A knife was also recovered by police but there is no indication the knife was used and no serious injuries were reported.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, including CCTV, witness and house-to-house enquiries.

Inspector Neil Taylor said: “Thanks to the quick actions of our officers, a man has been detained and a weapon has been taken off our streets. We are in the extremely early stages of an investigation into this incident and would appeal for anyone with any information to come forward.

“If you were in the South Road area this afternoon and saw anything or anyone suspicious, or captured anything on dashcam or other devices then please let us know. All information can help us removed dangerous weapons and those who use them from our communities."

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook Merseyside Police Contact Centre with reference 22000457390.
