Man preparing for surgery accidentally buys 3 identical lottery tickets and wins

A man preparing for important surgery accidentally bought too many lottery tickets - and won on every one!

The 67-year-old from Towson, Maryland, mistakenly purchased three identical tickets for the same draw last week.

He said he totally forgot he already bought one for the midday and evening Pick 5 game so grabbed another on a trip to the shops.

His wife, unaware that he had already collected tickets for the draw twice, bought him a third ticket later that day thinking he wouldn't remember.

Cursing the wasted money, little did he know he was about to seriously cash in on the mistake.

Using the same numbers for all three - 5-1-3-5-9 - he couldn't believe it when he scooped a total prize of $150,000 (£138,000).

"The one time that I accidentally buy three tickets, the number hits three times. It was unbelievable," the player told UPI.

But it's not the first time he has won big after scooping a huge prize on the four ball game a couple of years ago.

"I went to play my daughter's birth year, which is 1979," he added.

"The clerk at the store got it wrong and gave me the wrong number, 1997. When I got home later, guess what four digits hit that day? 1997!"

He says he plans to spend some of his recent winning on her after banking the huge prize from his error.

Earlier this year a woman who accidentally bought tickets for the wrong lottery drawing ended up with a massive win.

It wasn't until she was checking her tickets that she discovered she had mistakenly bought tickets for the Bonus Match 5 drawing instead of Multi-Match.

One of her tickets turned out to be a $50,000 winner.

She said: "I couldn't believe it because I had only ever won $500 dollars before, so this is by far my biggest win.

"I have so many plans for this money."
