A man has praised a teenage girl for coming to his rescue after he walked off from a cash machine - leaving £50 behind.
Matt Elliott withdrew the sum from a cash machine in Heywood but says he was 'distracted' and walked off, forgetting to put the money into his wallet. But he was left delighted by the actions of a teenage girl who raced after him with the notes.
Matt took to Facebook to praise the girl, whose mum, Rachel Monaghan, spotted the post and informed him it was her 15-year-old daughter, Mischa Davies. Now, Rachel says she is very proud and Mischa says she is happy to have helped.
Matt posted: 'Yesterday, I was distracted at the cash machine at Barclays. I withdrew £50 and then left it in the machine. I realised when I turned the corner onto Hind Hill Street. As I realised I went back, but a teenage girl had noticed this and came after me with my money.
"She was with several friends. Want to say a big thank you and show that some children in Heywood are brought up right. Gave the girl a tenner to show that honesty is rewarded. She is a credit to her parents."
Mischa, a pupil at Holy Family School in Heywood, said: "Me and my friend were walking through Heywood at midday on Sunday and we saw this man taking out cash from a cash machine. He looked stressed out and like he was in a rush.
"He walked off and the machine was still processing the cash, which was still coming out of the machine. We grabbed the money and ran after him. We turned the corner and he was rushing back.
"I said: 'You have literally just left the money in the cash machine, I have had to grab it out'. He said: 'Thank you so much', and passed me a tenner. I was happy he gave it to me but I was just so happy to have given him his money back, as if I was in that situation I would be so upset."
The following day, Rachel, from Bury, spotted the post on Facebook and told her daughter about it, claiming she was "Facebook famous." She responded to the post saying: "This was my daughter Mischa. I'm very proud of her and a big thanks to you too for saying thank-you."
Rachel said: "Something so little has meant so much to someone, so that he made that post. I thought it was lovely that he went out of his way to say thanks. I raised Mischa on my own and I thought it was amazing. Sadly, in this day and age not many people would have done this - I'm so glad she did or it would have been a sad ending."
Mischa's grandmother, Joanne Monaghan, also responded to the Facebook post saying: "This was my granddaughter Mischa I’m so proud of her." Other Facebook users posted up kind words of gratitude. User Dave Cale said: "Fantastic to hear some positive news about the youth of Heywood. It's lovely to hear of their honesty and well done Matt for rewarding their actions."
Norma Greensmith posted: "Yes, it’s lovely to know some children are still being brought up to know right from wrong, I wish more parents were like this well done young lady." While Debra Jones said: "An honest young lady who has been brought up very well."
