Man police want to trace as Lime Street rape investigation launched

A teenager claims she was raped in an alleyway near to Lime Street.

The woman, 18, said that just after 2am, on Sunday, February 6, she was taken into an enclosed area, on Back Commutation Row, outside of Liverpool Lime Street train station.

She said her attacker, who was not known to her, assaulted and raped her before leaving the area.

Police are now appealing for information and would like to trace a man who they believe could help with their investigation.

Officers have shared CCTV images of the man that they would like to speak to in connection to the rape.

They would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault.

Detective Inspector Granville Sellers said: "This is an extremely disturbing incident that occurred in central Liverpool at a time when many people were in the area.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time or anyone that witnessed anything suspicious to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

"We are particularly keen to speak to the man in the images, as he may hold information which could be vital to our investigation.
