A man who was caring for a 3-year-old Wisconsin boy when he vanished in late February has been ordered by a judge to stand trial on a child neglect charge in the child's disappearance. Jesse Vang, 39, from Two Rivers, Wisconsin, is facing one felony count of party-to-a-crime child neglect in connection with Elijah Vue's disappearance.
Following testimony from two law enforcement officers, a Manitowoc County judge determined that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with the case against Vang. The judge also denied a defense motion to dismiss the case.
Vang, who is the boyfriend of Elijah's mother, Katrina Baur, was charged in February and is currently held on a $20,000 cash bond. Baur, 31, from Wisconsin Dells, was also charged with one felony count of party-to-a-crime child neglect and two misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer. Prosecutors later amended the felony count against Baur to party-to-a-crime chronic child neglect and filed an additional misdemeanor charge of neglecting a child. Baur is being held on a $15,000 cash bond.
Elijah was last seen at a residence in Two Rivers, where Baur had left her son in Vang's care with the intention of having him teach the child 'to be a man.' Vang reported the boy missing on February 20, stating that he had taken a nap with the child in the bedroom but discovered him missing when he woke up three hours later.
