A man ordered a hit on his pregnant lover to hide the affair from his wife, the police have said.
Letycia Peixoto Fonseca, 31, was eight months pregnant when she was murdered in a hit allegedly ordered by her lover Diogo Viola, 40, in Campos dos Goytacazes, a city located in Rio de Janeiro State, in Brazil on March 2.
The footage shows the moment tragic Letycia Peixoto Fonseca was parked outside her home when two men pulled up on a motorcycle.
CCTV footage shows how the pillion passenger fires multiple gunshots into the vehicle at point-blank range.
The 31-year-old's horrified mum then bravely runs towards the gunman to try to grab him.
But as he and his accomplice speed away, he shoots her in the leg, causing her to fall to the ground.
She manages to get up and stumbles towards the car where her daughter is slumped as the footage ends.
Both women were taken to hospital, where doctors delivered Letycia's baby son alive in an emergency birth.
Letycia ended up dying from her injuries, while newborn Hugo also ended up succumbing the next day.
Letycia's mother, who has not been named, was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg and has since been discharged.
Letycia's lover Diogo Viola was arrested soon after.
Neither Letycia, an engineer, nor Viola's wife, who has not been named, knew each other, the police said on Monday, 3rd April.
Police spokesperson Natalia Patrao, who is in charge of the case, added that Viola had masterminded the hit because he was afraid that his relationship with Letycia would become known to his wife.
The police said that Viola had been married since 2010 but had also been in a relationship with Letycia for eight years.
Letycia had become pregnant in 2018 but lost that baby, according to local media.
Public prosecutor Fabiano Rangel said that Viola, who was a professor at the Fluminense Federal Institute (IFF), saw marriage with his wife as "something sacred and nothing could threaten that".
Viola allegedly lied to his wife when he was with his lover, saying that he was sleeping depression clinic or playing poker.
The prosecutor said: "Diogo had depression problems and had addictions to games and online pornography. And the more serious his situation with Letycia became, the more he sank into depressive episodes."
The authorities said that Viola allegedly hired a man named as Gabriel Machado to act as an intermediary regarding the assassination.
Machado, in turn, hired a man named as Dayson dos Santos as the shooter, with dos Santos enlisting the help of a suspect named as Fabiano Conceicao to act as the motorcycle driver, with dos Santos riding pillion.
Machado was reportedly paid BRL 5,000 (£788,50) to carry out Letycia's assassination.
Viola, dos Santos and Conceicao are all in prison pending trial, while Machado is under house arrest as he has three children with special needs, according to local media.
A first trial date has been set for May 18.
