A Christmas night out in Bristol resulted in a man glassing someone and assaulting police. But he was spared immediate jail for the out of character behaviour.
Callum Sheridan smashed a glass over a man's head at The Square Club in Berkeley Square, Bristol Crown Court heard. And when police were called in he threw punches at them.
Sheridan, 35, of High Street, Saltford, pleaded guilty to GBH and assault of an emergency worker after the incident on December 18 last year. Judge James Patrick handed him 12 months' prison, suspended for 18 months.

Sheridan was ordered to pay a total £2,600 compensation and £425 prosecution costs. He was also told to carry out 180 hours' unpaid work.
Sentencing yesterday (February 7), the judge told him: "This is a shameful episode. It has been hanging over you the last 14 months but your victim will have a reminder of it every day." Sheridan declined to comment as he left court.
Jack Barry, prosecuting, said Sheridan banged into the complainant at the club and was pushed away. The court heard Sheridan, who was holding a glass, struck the other man's face, smashing the glass.
Both men fell to the floor and the complainant managed to put Sheridan in a headlock. Later the complainant went to Southmead Hospital and had stitches and glue to close cuts to his face and left ear.
Police called to the scene found Sheridan outside the club. The court heard he attempted to punch an officer, was PAVA sprayed and arrested for assaulting an emergency worker - and also arrested for the earlier assault.
Ian Kelcey, defending, said: "He's acted totally out of character. He's acted under the influence of drink."
Mr Kelcey said remorseful Sheridan was a family man whose employment record included work on a Nightingale Hospital. Mr Kelcey said: "With immediate custody he is likely to lose everything he had built up. He will be deprived of his family."
Mr Kelcey urged for a suspended sentence. Mr Kelcey told the judge: "He looks out on his life through a window of tears. We ask you not to put bars on that window."
