Man mocked by Lee Anderson for having 'one Twitter follower' now has more than Ashfield MP

A man who was mocked by Lee Anderson for only having 'one Twitter follower' has now ended up with more followers than the Ashfield MP himself as a result. Chris Delaney, a full-time senior care worker who regularly posts tweets attacking the Conservative Party, responded to a post by Mr Anderson on January 11 in which the Tory MP questioned an article in The Guardian saying that Labour was planning to overhaul the routes back into work for the sick and long-term unemployed.

Mr Anderson wrote: "Oh the irony. Just imagine if I had said this. What do you think the front page headline would have said? 'Nasty out of touch Tory forces the disabled & long term doleys into workhouses'."

Chris Delaney responded by writing: "Tory MP, worried about his re-election prospects, takes any opportunity to slate the opposition?" Mr Anderson then responded to Mr Delaney's criticism by writing: "You have one Twitter follower in five years.

"Hardly an influencer are you when even your friends refuse to follow you. Assuming you have friends," the MP added.

Since this tweet was posted, many on Twitter have been campaigning for people to follow Mr Delaney so that he ended up surpassing the number of followers that Mr Anderson has. According to an online tracker, this has now been achieved.

At the time of writing, Mr Delaney had 44,217 Twitter followers compared to Mr Anderson's 44,203. Simon Harris, another online commentator who posts criticisms of the Conservatives, has been spearheading the effort to boost Mr Delaney's Twitter following.

He wrote: "Well done to everyone who got Chris Delaney over the line - he's now got more followers than his MP Lee Anderson, who just 48 hours ago told him that only having one follower meant he didn't have real friends either."
