A man made no reply after he was charged in relation to an incident which claimed the life of Brian Hogan.
A murder investigation was launched after victim Hogan, 39, was stabbed to death on Collins Place, Finglas in northwest Dublin on Friday evening at around 7pm.
Keith Smithers was before Judge David McHugh at Blanchardstown District Court this morning.

Smithers, also aged 39, was charged with assault causing serious harm to Mr Hogan.
Garda Sergeant Shane Behan, of Finglas Garda Station, gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.
Smithers, of Barry Close, Finglas, was arrested on Sunday for the purpose of charge at Blanchardstown Garda Station at 2.41pm before he was charged at 3.24pm.
Sgt Behan said the accused made no reply after caution and was handed a true copy of the charge sheet.
The garda also told the court that directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions are still outstanding.
It is the gardai’s position that there would be an objection to any bail application.
Solicitor John Quinn, defending Smithers, said he was served by the gardai with the objections.
He told Judge McHugh he was unable to make a bail application today.
The court heard that the solicitor is entitled to review the allegations against his client as well as take the opportunity to take instructions.
Separately, Mr Quinn applied for legal aid on behalf of his client who he said was on social welfare receiving €202 a week.
Judge McHugh granted the request before remanding the accused in custody to appear at the same court again on Thursday.
Smithers, wearing a tracksuit, sat quietly in the dock and did not address the short hearing.
Smithers was initially arrested on Friday night as was another man in his 30s.
The other suspect has been released without charge.
A garda spokeswoman said: “The second man, aged in his 30s, who was arrested in relation to this investigation has been released without charge.
“A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
Mr Hogan was born in Finglas. Friends of Mr Hogan have been paying tribute to him online.
Geraldine Healy said: “RIP Brian Hogan my childhood friend, fly high and may you rest in the arms of your mother and brothers.”
Aaron McMahon added: “Sad morning. Hope u get the best bed in heaven rip Brian Hogan true gent.”
Gardai are appealing for any potential witnesses to contact them.
