A man left his ex-girlfriend fearing for her life after he threatened to disfigure her with acid and have her raped in a horrific campaign of abuse.
Mohammed Aamer Imtiaz tracked his former partner's movements, sent her abusive messages and threatened to steal her grandfather’s ashes. The 36-year-old even told his victim what she could wear, where she could go and who she could meet.
Over the course of 2021, he tried to intimidate her family and isolated her from her friends in the 'targeted campaign of abusive, violent and threatening conduct', police said. Imtiaz' victim said she has been left terrified after what he did.

She said she is petrified that he is 'waiting in the bushes' for her. She said she was also forced to move home because of him.
The victim said: "Mohammed has made me feel so paranoid and I cannot rest easily because of what he has done to me and my family. I have moved address because of him and what he has done.
"I still feel as though my car has a tracker in it and that he is waiting to get out and see where I am again. Every time I get in from work, I am petrified that he is waiting in the bushes, I always make sure to always lock the door, and that’s my thoughts even now.”
Imtiaz, who lived in Manchester city centre, was arrested on January 19 this year for engaging in a course of controlling and coercive behaviour. He was subsequently charged following an extensive police investigation.
Imtiaz, of Owen Street, Manchester, was sentenced on Thursday (December 15) at Bolton Crown Court to three years in prison for controlling and coercive behaviour. The victim and her immediate family have all also been granted indefinite restraining orders to protect them from him.
Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Mark Astbury of GMP's City of Manchester District said: "Firstly, I'd like to thank the victim and their family for their unwavering cooperation in this investigation and I hope this helps bring some form of closure after the investigation for this overall terrible ordeal for the victims.
"This was a complex investigation that required the forensic and digital analysis of multiple sets of data, from telecommunications to tracking devices. The victim was coerced over several years and after the relationship ended the abuse continued to grow and inflict upon her closest family members and caused such distress and trauma and will no doubt leave a damaging and haunting impact on the victims.
"I can only hope that today’s sentencing can bring the victims some form of comfort and allow the victims to be able to build their lives back after this shocking and controlling abuse. This sentencing should send a clear message that domestic abuse and controlling behaviour is absolutely not acceptable and anyone who engages in this criminal behaviour will be brought to justice to face the consequences for their actions."
