Police were led on a high speed chase before officers were attacked in a petrol station.
Officers spotted a man riding an electric bike who tried to escape by running into the Amoco service station on Bigdale Drive, Kirkby. They followed him into the building, at around 10.30pm, and attempted a stop and search.
However the suspect reportedly assaulted two officers, before being detained and arrested. The 23-year-old was taken to a police station where he remains in custody for questioning.

Merseyside Police also seized the electric bike and suspected cocaine. The man, from Kirkby, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, driving without a licence or insurance, drug driving, obstructing a search and possession of cocaine.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers have arrested a man following an incident in Kirkby last night, Thursday 13 October. At around 10.30pm, officers sighted a male riding a high speed electric bike.
"He attempted to evade police by entering Amoco Service Station on Bigdale Drive, but was stopped and searched. He reportedly then assaulted two officers, before being detained and arrested. Suspected cocaine was found and the electric bike was seized.
"A 23-year-old man from Kirkby was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker x 2; driving without a licence or insurance; drug driving; obstructing a search; and possession of cocaine. He was taken to a police station and remains in custody for questioning."
