Man known as stinky grandad sent to specialist because farts were so bad his family had to keep windows and doors open

A man who appeared on the Channel 4 show Know Your S**t: Inside Our Guts has admitted his farts are so smelly his partner has to open the windows and doors at night. The programme, Know Your S**t: Inside Our Guts, aims to help people with many different dietary problems.

Craig, who is a firefighter, is known as "stinky grandad" by his grandson and his partner. The 51-year-old from Plymouth said he goes to the toilet up to 10 times a day as part of the problem and is desperate to find out what's causing it and be known as "happy, smiley grandad."

He said: "The farts are really bad during the night, sometimes its really really bad, uncomfortable. My partner will flick the quilt in the middle of the night and say 'Craig you've done it again!' window open, spraying sprays, door open to get the air through the room to get it clear." Hoping to fix the problem Craig wants to know what is causing it and how to get rid of the "stinky grandad" nickname. He visited Poo HQ, the base of the show, to meet Dr Rabia Topan and Sophie Medlin who are experts in gut health.

They advised that Craig should eat fewer onions, garlic, leeks and cabbage as these foods can cause smelly farts. Both experts advised that Craig should try eating more plant fibre foods which includes brown rice, chickpeas and oats.

Upon returning to Poo HQ Craig had some good news. By cutting out foods and upping his plant fibre intake his farts are no longer smelly. You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.

He said: "I've been increasing my plant food, it's been giving me lots more energy, I find I can tolerate lots more foods...the wind has stopped!" adding you could smell "hardly anything" now when he does fart. Craig said: "It's not so embarrassing anymore".

Know Your S**t: Inside Our Guts airs on Tuesdays on Channel 4 at 8pm.
