Man killed on Scots road in early morning crash

A man has died after a vehicle came off the road on a major Scots road in early hours of Sunday.

The car, reported to be a blue Ford Fiesta, crashed into a wall on the southern edge of the Glenapp Estate as it travelled along the A77 near the South Ayrshire town of Ballantrae, between Girvan and Cairnryan, at around 12.40am on May 14.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services following the collision.

Police closed the road for 11 hours following the smash to carry out investigations. Images from the scene showed officers retrieving and bagging wreckage from the vehicle.

Motorists diverted along a 53-mile alternate route; the road re-opened at 11.40am.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a crash involving a single car on the A77 near Ballantrae around 12.40am on Sunday, 14 May.

"One man was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
