The 28-year-old man and woman have now been released from hospital, but the other passengers continue to receive treatments. Their injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
The 23-year-old, who was driving the Vauxhall, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The driver of the Honda, a 62-year-old man, also received injuries that were serious but not life threatening and remains in hospital.
Two women who were passengers in the Honda were checked over by ambulance staff at the scene. A local resident, who didn't want to be named, says: "This sort of thing happens all the time. The police might as well camp out on the road. I'm sick of it because I can't get out of my house. I've seen cars flip over and drivers go through their windscreen.
"It's too wide is that main road, people forget it's a village. It's just a nuisance." A scene and road closures remain in place while collision investigation work is completed.
