Man killed as plane attempts to land at airfield

A man has died after a plane crashed at an airfield in England. The incident involving a light aircraft happened at Beccles airfield in Sussex at 2pm on Thursday (March 24).

An investigation has been launched by the Air Accident Investigation Branch and a team of inspectors are at the scene gathering evidence today (Friday). No-one else was in the plane and it is understood it was attempting to land.

Suffolk police said in a statement: "Officers can confirm one man has died as a result of the crash. No-one else was on board the plane.

"The plane was attempting to land at the time of the incident. Next of kin have been informed."

An area of the airfield was cordoned off while officers dealt with the incident. The airfield is south-west of Lowestoft.

The AAIB said: "An accident at Beccles aerodrome involving a light aircraft has been notified to the AAIB. An investigation has been launched into the accident and a team of inspectors are at the accident site gathering evidence."

Suffolk Live reported paramedics, including an air ambulance, were called to the airfield. Photos showed that four fire engines, two ambulance vans and two police cars are at the scene.
