Man kept awake to early hours by thumping sound from safari park

A Knowsley man has been plagued by a "thumping" sound coming from a nearby safari park during the early hours of the morning.

Garry, who asked to be referred to by his first name only, who lives around half a mile from Knowsley Safari Park in Prescot said the problem stemmed from parties taking place in a large tent in the grounds.

The parties, part of a series of Christmas events called the 'Electric Jungle' by Best Parties Ever are taking place throughout December.

On the Best Parties Ever website it states that the venue includes a "bustling bamboo bar where the atmosphere is charged and the music is pumping" as well as a more tranquil Laurent Perrier champagne bar.

Dodgems and aerial stunts are also billed as part of the events, which are taking place several nights each week through December.

Frustrated by the disruption to his weekend, Garry posted about the problem on Twitter saying: "Now heading to 1am in Prescot and thump thump of music still." Tagging Knowsley Council in the post, he added that had been left feeling that "local people don't matter."

Garry told the LDRS the noise was so loud on at least one of the nights last weekend that he could make out the words of the songs being played - despite living around half a mile from the event.

He added that he had been kept up into the night by the noise, which was: "Very loud on Friday night, to the extent that you could easily make out the tunes. Loud, but not quite as loud on Saturday. Both nights no sleep till after 1am."

Others also took to social media to complain about the noise being "far too loud" and one person lodged a complaint with Knowsley Council.

A Knowsley Council spokesperson said that complaint was now being investigated by Environmental Health and licensing services.

The spokesperson added: "These events are popular and take place every year, however, if there is an issue identified then officers will work with the event organisers to ensure the nuisance is abated.

“If residents would like to report a problem they can contact us via the website here, email environmentalhealth@knowsley.gov.uk or telephone 0151 443 4712.”

Knowsley Safari Park was also contacted for comment, and a spokesperson said: "Although we don’t organise the event, we take all such complaints seriously.

"Best Parties Ever, which organises this event, is constantly measuring sound levels and will continue to work with local residents about any concerns."

Best Parties Ever were also contacted for a response.
