A man has been jailed for 25 years after he killed a random man in a “ferocious” attack outside a shop in Enfield.
Sherome Williams, 21, of Woodlands Road, Enfield was convicted of murder at the Old Bailey on Wednesday in connection with the death of 23-year-old Russell Jordan Jones.
On March 17, 2018, Mr Jordan Jones was standing outside a shop on South Street, Enfield, when he was approached by a gang of men wearing dark clothing and masks covering their faces.
In what the Met Police described as a “ferocious” attack, the group shot and then stabbed Mr Jordan Jones several times after mistaking him for a rival gang member.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, Mr Jordan Jones died at the scene. One of his friends also sustained stab wounds following the assault.
Detective Sergeant Joanne Donoghue, from the Met’s Specialist Crime North said: “On a freezing cold night in March 2018, Williams and others armed themselves with a sawn off shotgun and knives before setting out in search of opposing gang members.
“The group they chose were not in a gang, they were simply a group of young men chatting outside a shop.
“The wickedness and ferocity of the attack, which was captured on CCTV, has shocked even the most seasoned of homicide detectives.”
Two others have also been convicted in connection with the murder and were sentenced to 29 years in prison in January 2019.
