Man 'inconsolable' after returning from airport toilet to find fiancée has taken off with luggage and €6k

A husband-to-be was all set to enjoy a holiday with his fianceé and an elopement - only to come back from a toilet in the airport to a disastrous situation.

The pair, in their 40s, told check-in staff they were flying to Rome to tie the knot after getting engaged only a day earlier in a romantic tale.

But while he went to relieve himself in the loos, the woman nabbed their suitcases - disappearing and took everything with her, including a massive sum of cash.

The Sun reports that the devastated man, believedto be British, told Terminal 5 staff at Heathrow Airport she had left with the €6,000 he'd given her for their wedding.

One onlooker said: "He was in bits — totally inconsolable. Apparently, they’d only met very recently and he’d fallen head-over-heels for her. He’d proposed a day earlier and she’d accepted.

"They’d planned to marry in Rome and were about to fly there. Then she did a runner while he went to the loo and vanished with all their belongings."

The person said staff had looked everywhere for her but she was nowhere to be found. It wasn’t even clear they added if she’d walked out of the airport or got on a plane.

"In the end, the police were called. Even her name was in doubt by then," they said.
