Man in serious condition after police called to concern for welfare on M61

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after police were called to reports of concern for welfare on a Greater Manchester motorway.

Traffic was temporarily held on the M61 near Bolton to allow emergency services, including the air ambulance, to attend to the incident at around 3:30pm on Saturday. Police and National Highways were dealing with the incident between junction 3 and 4.

Officers say the man remains in a serious condition in hospital.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 3.30pm on Saturday 1 July 2023, police were called to a report of concern for the welfare of a man near the M61 between junction 3 and 4 near Bolton.

"Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and he remains in a serious condition."
