Man in hospital after 'substantial' fire at Selston house

A man has been rescued after a "substantial" house fire broke out in a residential street.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue were called at 8:43pm on Wednesday, January 27 to a house fire on Crescent Road, Selston.

Four fire engines rushed to the scene, two from Ashfield fire station and two from Alfreton fire station in Derbyshire.

Crews used a smoke hood, breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to rescue the man from his property and put out the fire.

He was taken immediately to hospital by EMAS, where he is currently being treated.

A fire investigation is taking place at the property on Thursday, January 27.

Group Manager Andy Macey said “our thoughts are with the local community at this time. My thanks go to the personnel and agencies who attended this incident.

"We will be in the area in the coming days to offer fire safety advice and reassurance.”
