Man in his 50s dies while male teen in 'critical condition' following car crash in County Kerry

A man in his 50s has died following a fatal road traffic collision in Kerry this Sunday afternoon.

The crash, involving two vehicles, one a male sole occupant in his 50s and the other, a male driver in his late teens with a female passenger, occurred in Kilbonnane, Beaufort, Co. Kerry at approximately 1:10pm.

Emergency services attending the scene removed the man in his 50s from the scene to the mortuary in University Hospital Kerry, while the second male driver was also moved to the same hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

A female in her late teens was a passenger in the second car with the male teen, and was brought to hospital, with her injuries understood to be non-life threatening.

An Garda Síochána are asking for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Killarney are investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving two vehicles that occurred in Kilbonnane, Beaufort, Co. Kerry at approximately 1:10pm this afternoon Sunday 25th June, 2023.

"A male driver (50s) and sole occupant of one vehicle was fatally injured. His body was removed from the scene to the mortuary in University Hospital Kerry where a post mortem will be conducted in due course. "

The road is currently closed for an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators, which is currently ongoing.

Local diversions are in place in the area, according to reports.

Gardaí are asking for any witnesses to the Sunday afternoon collision in Kerry to come forward.

"Any road users who were travelling in the area with camera footage (including dash cam), is asked to make this available to the investigation team.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Killarney Garda station on 064 667 1160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station," a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána added.
