Man in his 30s suffers 'potentially life changing' injuries in Soho phone robbery

A man is seriously injured in hospital after thugs ambushed him and robbed his phone in the West End.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in Soho which has left a man with serious head injuries.

A gang surrounded the victim at 1.35am on July 7 Bateman Street, Soho.

Detectives are hunting the gang and trawling through CCTV from around the scene.

The victim has “potentially life changing injuries”, police said. No arrests have been made.

A Met statement said: “At around 01:35hrs on Sunday, 7 July, the victim was assaulted and robbed of his phone by a group of males in Bateman Street, W1.

“The man, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital where his condition is not life-threatening, but potentially life-changing.

“An investigation is under way, led by CID officers based at Charing Cross police station. There has been no arrest at this early stage.”
