Islington stabbing: Man knifed to death in broad daylight named as local 23-year-old

A man stabbed to death in broad daylight off a busy north London street has been named as local 23-year-old Yahye Ahmed.

Officers and paramedics rushed to the scene in Axminster Road, in Holloway, Islington, at roughly 11.40am on Wednesday to reports a man had been knifed.

The victim was found with stab injuries.

“Despite the efforts of emergency services he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene,” a Scotland Yard spokesperson said.

The victim was later identified as Mr Ahmed, who was from the local area. Police said his next of kin have been informed.

No arrests have been made.

A murder investigation has been launched led by Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who said: “At this early stage we are establishing a timeline of events that led up to and immediately followed this murder. If you have information or dashcam footage, please do get in touch.

“A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.”

Superintendent Jack May-Robinson of the Met’s Central North Command said there would be a heightened police presence in the area in coming days.

“I am saddened to see another young life needlessly lost on the streets of our capital,” he said.

“Local people will notice a more visible police presence in the coming days and I urge anyone with concerns to approach officers on patrol.

“We will continue to support our Specialist Crime colleagues as they work to identify and apprehend the person, or persons, responsible. I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while this vital work takes place.”

A crime scene in in place in Axminster Road, which connects to Seven Sisters Road. The Met’s Specialist Crime Command has been notified of the suspected stabbing.
