Man in his 20s seriously injured after car hits a tree

A man aged in his 20s was seriously injured and remained in hospital today after a car he was driving left a road and hit a tree, police have said.

He hasn't been named but is from the Wigan area of Greater Manchester and was rushed to hospital 'to be treated for multiple serious injuries', Lancashire Police said.

The crash happened at 7.15am on Sunday morning in the Salmesbury area of Lancashire. The force has now issued an urgent appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The car, a Kia Stinger, was traveling towards Salmesbury on the A59, police added. The force in a statement said he had suffered 'some very serious injuries' but no further details were revealed.

There have been no further reports of any other injuries.

In a statement, Lancashire Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses, CCTV and dashcam footage after a collision in Salmesbury which has left a man with serious injuries.

"We were called to the eastbound carriageway of the A59 at around 7.15am yesterday morning (Sunday, November 6) to reports a car, a Kia Stinger, that was traveling towards Salmesbury, had left the carriageway and collided with a tree. The driver, a man in his 20s from Wigan, was taken to hospital to be treated for multiple serious injuries."

Sergeant Chris Evans said: "This collision has left a young man with some very serious injuries and I would appeal to anyone who saw the collision itself, or the Kia in the moments before the collision, or who has dashcam footage, to get in touch."
