Man in his 20s hit by Vauxhall car in Liverpool street

Emergency services were called to the scene of a man being hit by a car.

Officers were called to a crash on Gainsborough Road in Wavertree at around 8am today, which involved a car and a pedestrian. A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with an injury to his leg.

A photo shared on Facebook showed around three ambulances and police cars at the scene. A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said they received a 999 call at 7.49am following a crash involving a pedestrian.

They said a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with a "lower limb injury". People also reported bus services were impacted by the crash. One person said it took them "two hours" to get into work.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said the driver of a grey Vauxhall remained at the scene. They said: "A collision that happened at around 8am today on Gainsborough Road involving a car and a pedestrian.

"A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital with an injury to his leg. The driver of the car (grey Vauxhall) remained at the scene."
