Man in critical condition following alleged shooting incident in Tallaght

A man is in critical condition following an alleged shooting incident in Tallaght this evening that left two men injured.

It happened at around 5pm in the Kiltalown area of Jobstown and local residents have told Dublin Live they have been left terrified. A man in his 20s is in critical condition in Tallaght University Hospital while a second is also hospitalised with injuries that are not life threatening.

A car understood to have been involved in the incident was later found burnt out in the Mount Seskin Road area of Tallaght. There is a strong garda presence across west Tallaght this evening.

One resident told Dublin Live: "Motorbikes were going up and down the field, that's nothing new here. That's probably why people didn't notice what was going on. There was two or three ambulances, police, everything. I think it's desperate. Young kids out of school."

While another added: "I was sitting on the wall. Saw bikes and fellas with balaclavas. Heard something that was like gunshots and I ran. Just saw a fella on the road [after]. It was scary, I just ran. I wasn't staying around to see what would happen. All the kids are traumatised. We're getting our kids out of here because they were just traumatised. It's disgusting."

Another resident who saw the car on fire told Dublin Live: "I just heard the noise of the tires and the car when it went up on fire. It's not nice. I live with my mam and dad they're in their 80s. It's very frightening for them."

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Shortly after 5pm, on Monday April 17 2023, Gardaí and Emergency Services were alerted following reports of an incident in the Kiltalown area of Tallaght. Two males, 20s, injured in the course of the incident were removed by Ambulance to Tallaght Hospital. One of males is currently in a critical condition, while injures to the second male are not described as life threatening. A number of scenes in the Kiltalown area are preserved for examination and enquiries are ongoing. No further details are currently available."
