Man airlifted to hospital following serious crash on Scottish island

A MAN has been airlifted to hospital following a serious crash on a Scottish island.

At around 8.25am on Tuesday, officers were called to a report of a crash on the A846 South of Bowmore in Islay, involving a Volkswagen Transporter van and a BMW GS motorbike.

Emergency services attended the scene and the motorcyclist, a 28-year-old man, was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where his condition is described as critical.

The 68-year-old male driver was taken to Bowmore Hospital for treatment and later released.

The road was closed for around eight hours to allow for enquiries to be carried out.

Police are appealing for information following the incident.

Sergeant Bob Mackie said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time or who witnessed the crash or the vehicles involved to get in touch.”
