A man has been rushed to hospital after being ‘impaled on a fence spike’ following a horror fall in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Atholl Crescent shortly before 9am on Wednesday, May 24.

It is understood that the man collapsed before landing on the sharp railings as concerned eye witnesses watched on. The man’s condition is not currently known.

Police Scotland told Edinburgh Live that they were called to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service following reports of a man falling into railings.

Images from the scene show two ambulance vehicles, a police car and a fire engine parked at the side of the street as they dealt with the incident.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 08:48 to attend an incident on Atholl Crescent, Edinburgh. An ambulance and a Critical Care Practitioner were dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.”
