Man hunted by police after woman sexually assaulted on train

Police have released CCTV images after a man sexually assaulted a woman on a train.

The assault happened at around 6.20pm on Saturday, May 28 on a train travelling between Wigan and Warrington. The man approached the woman and sexually assaulted her before leaving the train at Warrington Bank Quay Railway Station.

Officers from British Transport Police are now investigating the assault and have released CCTV images of a man they believe may have information which could assist them.

A BTP statement said: "Do you recognise this man? Officers investigating a sexual assault on a train between Wigan and Warrington would like to identify him in connection.

"On May 28 at around 6.20pm the victim has been on the train when a man has sexually assaulted her before leaving the train at Warrington Bank Quay Railway Station. Officers believe the man in the CCTV images may have information which could help their investigation.

"If you recognise him or have any information please contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 159 29/05/22. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
