Person dies after being hit by train between Liverpool Lime Street and Warrington

A person has died after being hit by a train near to a Liverpool train station this morning.

British Transport police confirmed they were called to the line, between Lime Street and Warrington Central, after reports of a person on the tracks. Emergency services, including paramedics, attended but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

National Rail confirmed routes between Liverpool Lime Street and Warrington Central are closed, after a person was struck on the tracks. As lines are closed, no trains will be running between the two stations and all services will be cancelled or diverted.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious. They are working to identify the person and inform their next of kin.

A spokesperson for the force said :"British Transport Police were called to the line near Warrington at 9.15am today following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin. This incident is not being treated as suspicious."

The cancellations are affecting East Midlands Railway and Northern Rail services. Routes include Northern services between Liverpool and Manchester and TransPennine Express services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria / Manchester Piccadilly.

National Rail said: "A person has been hit by a train between Liverpool Lime Street and Warrington Central. As all lines are currently closed, trains running between these stations will be cancelled or diverted."
