Man held knife to terrified partner's neck and told her 'you're going to die tonight'

An abusive boyfriend held an eight-inch knife to his terrified girlfriend's throat while they were on holiday at a caravan site and told her: 'You're going to die tonight'. The victim tried to escape Stuart Jones's clutches but he dragged her back into the caravan while she was in tears, Wales Online reports.

The drunken 44-year-old was staying at Trecco Bay caravan park in Porthcawl with his partner on November 11 when he viciously attacked her. Jones had been indulging in alcohol throughout the day and left a pub abruptly before he went back to the caravan and carried out the assault.

His ex partner had received concerning texts from Jones and went back to their accommodation where she discovered him in the bedroom. Cardiff Crown Court heard on Friday that the defendant then came into the living room and repeatedly punched the victim in the head before grabbing her hair and by the throat.

He then branded her a 's***' and said to her 'You're going to die tonight'. The horrified woman managed to escape the caravan but was caught by Jones who dragged her back inside and threw her to the floor.

Witnesses who saw the incident described the victim as appearing distressed and being in tears. The 44-year-old took a knife out the drawer and placed it under the victims chin with some applied force.

He also boiled the kettle and the victim feared that he was going to scald her with it. He was approaching her again when officers arrived at the scene and arrested Jones.

During his police interview, Jones of Charles Street, Porth claims that he was unaware he had caused any real harm to the victim and informed officers: "I have a way out, I'm going to kill myself."

Jones, who the court heard suffers from significant mental health conditions, pleaded guilty to threatening a person with a knife and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Recorder Simon Hughes told Jones that only an immediate custodial sentence could be justified for his actions and he was sentenced to 12 months behind bars.
