Man gets wallet full of cash back seven years after he lost it in a taxi

A dad who lost his wallet in a taxi after a concert in 2015 was stunned when it suddenly arrived in the post years later.

Andy Evans, 45, had flagged the cab down after seeing the Courteneers in Heaton Park but realised it was not in his pocket when he got out.

As he had no idea which firm he had used Andy feared it was lost forever until he received a package in the post containing the wallet - completely undisturbed, Manchester Evening News reported.

Andy said: “It's just absolutely crazy.

“At first I was really confused as I didn't really remember the wallet as it was so long ago. Then as I looked at it a bit more I started to twig.

The wallet contained Andy's driving licence and several expired bank cards (Andy Evans/MEN)

"I just couldn't believe it. I thought 'it can't be.' Seven years? No one I've told can believe it either.

“I texted my brother straight away as he had to lend me money on the night so I could stay out and keep partying, so he remembered it, and he's gobsmacked as well."

The brown Henri Lloyd wallet contained two old-style twenty-pound notes which can still be used but Andy will have to take the old paper five and ten pound notes, and old pound coins, to the bank to be exchanged.

The bank cards expired five years ago.

Andy added: “It appears it's been sat there wedged underneath the seat or something all this time, even by the sounds of it after this taxi came off the road.

Andy contacted the taxi driver who returned the wallet, who suggested he make a donation to charity (Andy Evans/MEN)

“It's like Robinson Crusoe or something. A message in a bottle coming back years later. You couldn't write it."

The package contained an email address which Andy wrote to, to thank the kind individual for returning it and offered a reward by way of thanks.

The reply, signed from Manchester Taxi Driver, said: “In all honesty, I wasn't returning it for your reward, your offer of diesel just brought a massive smile to my face.

"It is the middle of the month of Ramadan which is a great month for charity, any contribution you were going to make let's get it to those less fortunate."

Andy added: “I've asked if he wants to meet up or to get a coffee or something.

“I just want to shake his hand and say thank you. He didn't have to do what he's done. He sent it special delivery so will have cost £8 of his own money to send me.

“So for it to come back with all the money really is amazing.”
